Production and efficient use of briquettes from sugarcane bagasse
This project supported by the Finnish government through the Energy and Environment Partnership Programme (EEP). It is a pilot project with the overall goal of achieving sustainable supply of renewable energy for rural communities in the sugarbelt region of Kenya. By encouraging local investment in efficient production and use of alternative renewable energy, the project contributes to significant reduction of carbon emissions associated with the combustion of woodfuel derived from unsustainable sources in the area. The project will demonstrate local production of briquettes to be used either in raw or carbonized form for cooking. The project demonstrates the use of improved cookstove, a proven efficient system based on rocket technology. Further, the project develops models for commercialization of the technologies to be undertaken by the local private sector.
