ELCI’s long partnership with the International Land Coalition (ILC) has evolved to a host relationship. In this regard, ELCI hosts the Regional Coordination Unit of the ILC Africa Network, within its office in Nairobi, Kenya.
This relationship is founded on a hosting agreement signed with ILC in March 2016 in Nairobi and Rome. As the host, ELCI has the role of providing the necessary policy, administrative and institutional support for the effective and efficient operations of ILC in Africa.
This decision, which was supported by ILC members in Africa region, is anchored upon ILC’s decentralisation programme where ILC intends to increasingly build capacity within the regions to deliver on the goal of people centred land governance.
The board and staff of ELCI gave a very warm reception to this agreement, which not only strengthens cooperation between ELCI and ILC, but also deepens ELCI’s contribution towards increasing recognition of the needs and priorities of local communities that depend on land and land based activities for their survival.
